Adjusting the retention on your holster!

How to Adjust the Retention Screws on Your Kydex Holster

One of the best features of a Kydex holster is its adjustable retention. Whether you're carrying concealed or using it on the range, having the right level of retention ensures both safety and quick access. Luckily, adjusting it is quick and easy.

What You'll Need:

  • A Phillips screwdriver or drill

  • Your unloaded firearm

  • A safe work surface

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Unload and Clear Your Firearm
Safety first. Double-check that your firearm is unloaded and safe to handle.

  2. Locate the Retention Screws
Most Kydex holsters have two retention screws, typically near the trigger guard area. These screws hold rubber spacers or grommets between the Kydex halves.

  3. Adjust Evenly
Use your screwdriver to turn each screw a quarter-turn at a time. Tighten to increase retention, loosen to decrease it. Always adjust both screws evenly to keep the fit consistent.

  4. Test the Fit
After each adjustment, insert and draw your firearm a few times. You're looking for a secure fit with a satisfying "click" that still allows for a smooth draw.

  5. Fine-Tune
Too tight? Loosen slightly. Too loose? Tighten again. It may take a couple of tries to find your perfect balance of security and speed.

Final Tip:

Once you've got the retention where you want it, consider adding a drop of threadlocker to prevent the screws from loosening over time due to vibration or use. Check your retention and belt clip screws periodically!
